In 2012 IGD began a process in Italy to adopt an Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with UNI EN ISO 14001-2004 regulation, with the intention of defining unequivocal environmental performance monitoring and management methods. The aim of IGD Group’s Environmental Management System is to define and implement a working method that protects the environment during the company’s activities, guarantees compliance with the laws in force and establishes a virtuous continuous improvement system. The project involves IGD SIIQ SPA, including the Bologna headquarters, and IGD Management, in the shopping centres.
In 2020 we achieved the 95% certification target we had set, resulting in a more efficient property management system from an environmental point of view, with a consequent improvement in the energy performance of buildings. The IGD shopping centres certified are 24, in addition to the Bologna headquarters: Centro Lame, Centro Casilino, Centro Luna, Centro La Favorita, Centrosarca, Gran Rondò, I Bricchi, Mondovicino, Conè, Tiburtino Shopping Center, Centro d’Abruzzo, La Torre, Katanè, Le Maioliche, Lungosavio, Clodì, Centro Borgo, Porto Grande ESP, Puntadiferro, Le Porte di Napoli, Città delle Stelle, Leonardo and Maremà.
IGD undertakes not only to extend the boundary of its certified Centers, but also to establish relations with suppliers that comply with the sustainability criteria adopted by the Company: 20% of the suppliers that we stipulate a contract with, are in turn, UNI EN ISO 14001 certified.
Following the positive outcome of the BREEAM certification process for Sarca shopping center, we decided to continue along this path and in 2017 we carried out a feasibility study to assess the possibility of obtain “Breaam in use” certification for 4 shopping centers (Katanè, Tiburtino, Puntadiferro and ESP). Then in 2018 we initiated the process which led to the recognition for the certification for Tiburtino and Katanè. In 2019 BREAM IN USE certification was obtained for Puntadiferro and Esp, while in March 2020 the shopping centers Conè, Leonardo and Le Porte di Napoli were certified. In 2021 the BREEAM IN USE certification was renewed for Katanè and Tiburtino shopping centers; the former improved its score both with regard to “asset performance” and with regard to “building management”, compared to 2020, reaching respectively the level of Very Good and Excellent; whereas the latter improved from Good to Very Good in “asset performance” and it maintained the level of Very Good in”building management”.
This certification represents one of the most important and recognised international standards for environmental sustainability of buildings and it places particular attention on the overall improvement of the wellbeing of the individuals within the structures.
Obtaining BREEAM certification, for a shopping centre, involves following an environmental assessment protocol which is one of the most used and most important at international level, and which concerns both the construction and restyling phase of the building and the aspects regarding the day to day running of the building itself: indeed, assessment is carried out on parameters such as materials used, the quality of the environment, as well as water and energy consumption and correct waste management.

Following the agreement signed by all the shopping centres in 2016 with their electricity supplier to acquire Green Certificates (G.O Guarantee of Origin), since 2017 IGD headquarters office’s and all the shopping centres’ electricity supply has come exclusively from renewable energy sources, in line with the targets defined in the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The 2019 energy mix (latest available) certified by the supplier was made up of 100% wind power.
Thanks to the use of green energy, 17,200 tonnes of CO2 were not emitted into the atmosphere in 2021.

To consolidate this committment, in 2018, the Company obtained UNI ISO 37001 – Anti Bribery Management Systems Certification for its Romanian subsidiary Win Magazine SA. This is the only internationally recognized standard that certifies a management system actively involved in preventing and combatting corruption within the corporate environment.
On 20 April 2020, also IGD obtained UNI ISO 37001:2016 “Anti-bribery management system” certification, the international standard for anti-corruption management systems issued by RINA Services S.p.A., an independent certifier accredited by Accredia (a national accrediting entity for certifications and inspections appointed by the government) and the Italian leader in compliance certification.

The certification scheme developed by the accrediting body RINA is the first management model introduced on the market which aims to prevent and minimize the spread of health infections in people caused by biological agents, such as those related to Covid-19.
The certified shopping centers comprise the Group’s large assets: CentroSarca in Sesto S. Giovanni (MI), Conè in Conegliano (TV), ESP in Ravenna, Puntadiferro in Forlì, Tiburtino Shopping Center in Rome, Le Porte di Napoli in Naples and Katanè in Catania.
The achievement of this Certification from an accredited, impartial body like RINA represents for IGD a further recognition of the quality of the measures implemented in its structures relative to health, safety and preventing the risk of contagion from biological agents (particularly Covid-19), following the post-lockdown 2020 reopenings of the properties.
