IGD SIIQ SPA obtains BREEAM-IN USE certification for the Katané Shopping Center

IGD continues the path begun in 2016 with the certification obtained for the Centro Sarca in Milan, confirming its commitment to achieving the highest standards of environmental sustainability

IGD – Immobiliare Grande Distribuzione SIIQ S.p.A., one of the main players in Italy’s retail real estate market and listed on the STAR segment of the Italian Stock Exchange, announces that the Katané Shopping Center in Catania has obtained BREEAM In-Use environmental certification, with a rating of “Very Good” for Asset Performance and “Good” for Building Management.

This certification, introduced by BRE in 2015 and applicable to commercial properties that are already operating, is one of the most important and recognized international standards for the environmental sustainability of buildings and is known for the particular focus on increasing the overall wellbeing of building users.

Obtaining the Breeam In-Use represents the continuation of a journey begun with the BREEAM certification received in 2016 for Centro Sarca in Milan following completion of the restyling. In 2017 IGD commissioned a specialized agency to complete a feasibility study in order to assess the possibility of Breeam in-Use certification for the 4 key assets in its portfolio. In the wake of the positive outcome of this study, the green light was given to begin the process leading to certification for (in addition to Centro Katanè), Tiburtino Shopping Centre in Rome in  2018, Puntadiferro in Forlì and ESP in Ravenna in 2019.

Centro Katanè, inaugurated in 2009 and UNI EN ISO 14001 certified in 2015, obtained the Breeam In Use certification after making significant changes to IGD’s environmental policies.

 

“We undertook a path focused on sustainability in 2010 and sustainability was included in our Business Plan already in 2014. The certifications provide us with important moments to evaluate the work we are doing.  For this reason, we are satisfied with our first Breeam in-Use certification which testifies to our commitment to providing our center visitors with a comfortable experience in environmentally sustainable structures. And now the work continues: in 2019 we will obtain Breeam In-Use certification for our 4 key assets and complete the roll out plan which calls for UNI EN ISO 14001 certification of 90% of our current portfolio” Roberto Zoia, IGD SIIQ’ Director of Asset Management and Development, stated.
