IGD \u2013 Immobiliare Grande Distribuzione SIIQ S.p.A. is introducing RecoPet eco-compactors from COREPLA, the National Consortium for the collection, recycling, and recovery of plastic packaging, in ten shopping centres owned and managed by the Group to promote the collection and recycling of PET bottles.<\/p>\n
The initiative promotes sustainable habits and circular\u2011economy practices within local communities, engaging residents and shopping-centre visitors in a hands-on experience toward greater environmental awareness. The project also promotes \u201cbottle-to-bottle\u201d collection, the process through which collected PET bottles can be transformed into new bottles for food use.<\/p>\n
RecoPet eco-compactors are already in operation at the Le Maioliche (Faenza), Nuova Darsena (Ferrara), ESP (Ravenna), Puntadiferro (Forl\u00ec), Centro Borgo and Centronova (Bologna) and Con\u00e8 (Conegliano \u2013 TV) shopping centres.<\/p>\n
Alongside the installation of the eco-compactors, the participating centres promoted awareness-raising activities on recycling and the circular economy, targeting children, families, and the entire local community.<\/p>\n
Users can access the service by downloading the RecoPet app, scanning the machine\u2019s QR code, and depositing empty, intact bottles\u2014complete with a readable barcode\u2014into the dedicated compartment. After depositing the waste, users can scan the QR code or collect their receipt to receive points. The app also allows them to discover benefits and initiatives linked to proper waste sorting.<\/p>\n
After this first phase, the project will involve three additional shopping centres of the Group in Sicily, La Torre and Poseidon in Palermo and Katan\u00e8 in Catania, which are currently being fitted out.<\/p>\n
